Vacuum cleaners : How to choose the best one

How to choose the best vacuum cleaner for your family?

The vacuum cleaner is the perfect ally for cleaning and home maintenance.

Choosing the right one for your needs depends on a number of factors, because every person and every home has its own particularities. It will all depend on the situation, the plants present in the house, the square meters to be vacuumed, whether or not you have pets, or the type of surface of your floor.

That's why choosing a good vacuum cleaner that will help us speed up the task (and leave our home perfect) is an essential decision when it comes to house cleaning. Do you think it's easy? There are many models, accessories and other features to consider.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT VACUUM CLEANER?

1. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POWER AND SUCTION CAPACITY.

Power is expressed in watts and is one of the factors most often put forward to influence purchase. People think that more power means more suction power, but in reality, these are two very different things. Higher power doesn't necessarily mean better cleaning results, but it can mean higher electricity bills. In addition to suction power, you also need to consider outgoing suction power, as the efficiency of this appliance will depend on its balance.

2. CONSIDER THE SURFACES TO BE CLEANED AND THE ACCESSORIES REQUIRED.

Depending on the type of floor, you'll need more or less power, which will force you to choose between one vacuum cleaner and another. Do you have a lot of carpets? Then choose one of the more powerful models, with high suction power. If you have parquet, laminate or ceramic tiles, this will be a much easier task for the vacuum cleaner and will therefore require less power.

In addition to the surface, you also need to think about the most difficult corners of your home. There are all kinds of accessories designed to reach the smallest nooks and crannies.

3. FIND OUT MORE ABOUT ENERGY EFFICIENCY

In September 2014, the law came into force requiring appliance manufacturers to affix an energy efficiency label to their appliances, so that the buyer has a good reference when buying one.

This law also requires vacuum cleaners to meet the following requirements: annual energy consumption must be less than 62 kWh/year, efficiency must be less than 166 watts, the dust removal rate for carpets must be at least 70% and for hard floors at least 95%.

4. DO YOU HAVE PETS?

This is another important point, especially if your little furry friend sheds a lot. Excessive hair (especially if long) can clog the tank or even get tangled up in the motors. You need to choose a machine capable of vacuuming large quantities; there are many available today specially designed for homes with pets, such as the ASPRA cordless vacuum cleaner from Protech Allergies.

5. DO YOU LIVE IN A DUPLEX? WEIGHT AND EASE OF TRANSPORT ARE FUNDAMENTAL.

You have to remember that you'll have to carry the vacuum cleaner all over your house; this isn't a problem unless you live in a duplex, in a house that's too big, or if you have a muscular problem, for example. Depending on your situation, you'll have to choose between one of the 3 types explained below. All our Protech Allergies cordless vacuum cleaners are very light, weighing in at under 2.7 kg.

6. KNOW THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ALLERGIES AND FILTERS

HEPA filters are always important, but they're even more so for allergy sufferers. If there is no filter, the vacuumed dust will be sucked back into the room air (which is even worse).

There are different types of filter, but for these problems we recommend the HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter, which has different levels of filtration and collects even the smallest dust particles.

7. IT'S ESSENTIAL TO CONSIDER THE CAPACITY OF THE BAG OR TANK.

The bigger it is, the better, as you'll avoid having to empty the tank or change the bag from time to time. Many of today's models are equipped with an indicator lamp that lights up when there is little space left, and reduces power so as not to overload the bag (or tank) with dust.

8. DID YOU KNOW THEY HAVE SAFETY SYSTEMS?

As if they were a car, some vacuum cleaners are equipped with safety features such as: filter saturation or bag change warnings, thermal safety, wheel protection to avoid scratching the floor, motor shutdown when the bag is defective and... even furniture bumpers!

TYPES OF VACUUM CLEANER

After considering all the questions above, you should know that there are 3 different types to consider:

Canister (corded) vacuum cleaners

This is the one we've always seen, consisting of a small device with wheels from which a tube and nozzle or brush emerge.

Advantages:

- Versatility when cleaning different surfaces.

- Wide range of models and prices.

Disadvantages:

- Transport and weight disadvantages.

The upright or cordless vacuum cleaner

It's much easier to handle, has the shape of an ordinary broom, weighs less and usually runs on external lithium batteries (so you don't have to plug it into the mains).

Advantages:

- Lightweight, they don't weigh as much as their predecessors and can therefore be used by everyone. Some good-quality ones, like those from Protech Allergies, offer good suction power and autonomy, as well as being easy to wash.

Disadvantages:

- Dust removal capacity is lower than that of a central vacuum cleaner, especially on carpets.

Robotic vacuum cleaners

These have only recently come onto the market. If you don't have much time for cleaning, this is the best choice, as it cleans itself. On the other hand, they're much less powerful, which is a big drawback, and they're generally round, so they don't reach corners.

Choose the right vacuum cleaner based on the above criteria, and simplify your life by keeping your home clean in no time!
